Dr. Hongshik Han
Hongshik Han, M.D., is a Board Certified Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgeon who is affiliated with Clovis Community Hospital, Fresno Surgical Hospital, St. Agnes Medical Center, Valley Children’s Healthcare, and local surgery centers.
Dr. Han graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and physics with the highest distinction from the University of Chicago in 1992. He was involved in numerous scientific research projects throughout college and won the Richter Undergraduate Summer Research Award on cellular responses to electrical injuries. Throughout college, he worked as a teaching assistant in several undergraduate mathematics courses. He also was an NCAA Division III collegiate wrestler and a staff writer for the Chicago Maroon, the college student newspaper.
Dr. Han went on to excel in medical school at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. There, he won the prestigious NIH research award on cerebral vasospasm and was published in a leading neurosurgery journal. He continued to work as a teaching assistant in numerous advanced level mathematics courses for the undergraduates and in human anatomy courses for first-year medical students.
He graduated with high distinction in 1996 and was accepted into the renowned combined general and plastic surgery program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Dr. Han was ranked #1 out of 8 surgical residents in clinical judgment and technical skills during the last year of general surgery training. He published several papers in peer-reviewed surgical journals, gave numerous presentations, and co-authored several chapters in plastic surgery textbooks.
After finishing the general surgery and plastic surgery residencies at Northwestern in Chicago, Dr. Han completed the hand surgery fellowship at Baylor-Texas Medical Center in Houston. In addition to the Plastic Surgery Board Certification, Dr. Han also obtained the Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery.
Dr. Han and his family moved to Fresno in 2004. Since then, Dr. Han has built a solid reputation in the medical community as one of the most sought after and highly skilled surgeons. Dr. Han is currently the only plastic surgeon who routinely performs upper extremity replantation and micro reconstruction in the Central Valley.
